Immersion Class

Unknown-1imgres

We offer a French Immersion Class for non-native children aged 3-9 year olds.

The linguistic and educational success of second language immersion education is now well established. We know that children who are immersed regularly in a second language classroom have better cognitive skills and generally do better academically.

The class is led by a Native French teacher, experienced in Immersion and teaching French as a foreign language. The class will be open to children aged  3 to 9 as we know at that age children are like sponges and absorb language in the most effective way. There will be 10 children maximum in each class. The teacher will speak mostly in French, in all activities.

Programme

In teaching the second or third language we mirror the child’s process of acquiring the mother tongue. As we involve the child in a world full of curiosities, unknowns and opportunities for discovery, we surround her/him with a new language. Soon the child begins repeating words, sentences and songs, and before long, s/he understands all that is said in the second language.

The Immersion class will revolve around the visual arts, singing, storytelling , sports games, drama and playground games that children will be familiar with. What is important is an Immersion Class means that children do not learn a language formally, they learn everything in the language. They are able to understand because of the context of what is being said. Every thing in the class will be done in French.

Immersion Class, Saturdays, 10.15-11.15, Pelham School, Central Wimbledon, term time.

£140 / term per child

Spanish Immersion Class!  Vamos pronto!

The school will be offering a Spanish Immersion Class for non-native children age 3-10 from April 2017. This would be similar to the French Immersion class. The teacher, a native speaker, will use music, rhymes, movement, games, crafts , drama and dance to teach the language. What is important is an Immersion Class means that children do not learn a language formally, they learn about different things in the language. Every thing in the class will be done in Spanish. They are able to understand because of the context of what is being said.

A good example of what Immersion is, we aim to offer something very similar to this:
